BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC 2-3 Gudja United FC

Birkirkara FC conceded their fourth defeat in the BOV Premier League when yesterday they were defeated by Gudja United FC with a 3-2 score. For Gudja, one of the newly-promoted teams this season, this was their first victory.

Gudja surged ahead on the twenty-eighth minute. Rundell Renold Winchester made a dazzling run on the left flank before he served Gabriel Mensah in the box who had his first attempt blocked, but from the rebound, he slotted past Hogg.

Birkirkara made the score level on the fourty-first minute. Following good movement on the right flank, Rocha delivered a cross on the second-post and Falcone hit a fine header past goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.

Gudja were unlucky not to regain the lead in the stoppage time of the first half when they were denied by the post on two occasions. Friggieri's shot smashed against the crossbar, while Winchester's header was denied by the upright.

The Stripes started the second half more aggressive, but it was Gudja who regained their lead just past the hour mark. Gabriel Mensah hit a spectacular past the stranded Hogg. 

More woes followed for the Stripes as Pepe fouled Friggieri inside the box. The referee ordered the penalty and sent off the Birkirkara defender for double booking. From the spot, Winchester sent Hogg the wrong way to make them three.

Birkirkara pulled one back on the seventy-seventh minute. Substitute Michael Mifsud's cross found Falcone who controlled the ball and fired home from inside the box. 

The Stripes, despite a man down, put everything forward but they failed to capitalise on their scoring chances as they fell to their fourth defeat.

Gabriel Mensah of Gudja United was named BOV Player of the match.
