Goals by Karl Caruana and Ayrton Attard guided Birkirkara Under 13 team to a 2 - 0 victory over worthy Spanish opponents, Villajoyosa C.F.
The Birkirkara Under 13's have started their Costa Blanca Cup commitments today.
The Birkirkara Summer School is well underway, having just completed the first week of training. The training sessions are intense, and are enabling our students to improve in all areas of the game, as the coaches prepare their sessions based on the Ajax Online Academy training tips.
For the first time the Birkirkara FC Nursery has prolonged the season by another month to conduct extra training sessions, once weekly on specific topics in the month of June.
The Birkirkara Football Summer School is designed to teach the fundamentals of the game to beginners, as well as the experienced varsity athlete looking to hone skills for the coming season. Athletes will be placed in small groups according to age. Each athlete will work with one of Birkirkara FC Academy's football coaches, who will be recruited for next season within the same Academy. Coaches will help to improve each athlete's ability. The coaches are committed to a planned program that will focus on development and fun.
Mr Charles Sciberras, known as il-Fly and one of the founding members of the Nursery, is now the longest serving coach and committee member with his 30 years of non-stop activity. It was therefore not an option to have his input in this issue, and conducting an interview with the humble, but hard working, pillar of this Nursery. Here is what Mr Sciberras had to say:
Our Under 15s team managed to end their league commitments for this season with a 3-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows at the Rabat Ajax Ground on Thursday evening. Even though there was no chance of obtaining promotion, this win helped Birkirkara to keep hold of third place ahead of Pembroke Athleta.
A solitary goal just before the end of the first time saw Birkirkara being beaten by Mosta in the Under 16's Women knockout in a balanced match.
After giving up any hope of obtaining promotion to Section A, Birkirkara Under 15s found it hard to motivate themselves enough in order to stave off the challenge of St Patricks, thus allowing the Zabbar to beat them for the second time in two games this season. St Patricks deserved to win this match as they showed more desire, probably because they were playin at their home grounds. Brkirkara seemed to be a disjointed lot , and even though on paper they ought to have had the better of their opponents, they never looked capable of making any type of breakthrough in the locals' well organised defence.
Under 15s' Promotion Hopes Dashed Out After Draw With Zebbug
Birkirkara Under 15's flailing hopes of regaining second place in the table, which would mean promotion to Section A, were given a deadly blow when they only managed a 1-1 draw with Zebbug Rangers at the Rabat Ground. With Qormi winning their own game, they are now out of the Stripes' reach. Once again Coach Mr Carmel Micallef had a headache trying to assemble a competitive starting eleven, having to play an outfield player in goal for the second consecutive day.
Following previous success, Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery will be organising the Junior Champions league this Satruday 18th March at Infetti. This event will be open for children in age groups from Under 5 to Under 15, with the younger two age groups playing 3-a-side and the rest on a 5-a-side basis. Each game will last 10 minutes and teams will be split into groups an will be named after top european clubs as part of the fun. Teams will be formed and fixtures will be issued there and then, according to the number of participants.
Once again, the Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery will be hosting the Summer School, which will commence on July the 2nd and will come to an end on the 1st of August. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sessions for girls will also be held on Wednesdays.
Birkirkara Under 16's Girls team advanced to the final of the Under 16's Knock-out competition when the Stripes confirmed their potential by performing a fine performance to outclass league's runners-up Pembroke with a 4-0 score in a match that was played on Sunday morning.
What was being considered as the most important game of the campaign proved to be a huge disappointment as Birkirkara were beaten 3-0 by Qormi at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday, in a direct clash for promotion to Section A via the second place. This is a huge blow for our promotion aspirations as now Qormi have now taken charge of the race with only 2 games left. The major cause of disappointment was the fact that Birkirkara could not play this match with their best formation. There were a lot of players missing due to various reasons, to the extent that an outfield player, Owen Amato, had to act as a goalkeeper since none of the actual goalkeepers were available for selection.
