Stripes to face Mosta FC this evening
by Ayrton Galea - 4th January 2017Birkirkara FC will be seeking to start 2017 on a positive note when this evening they take on Mosta FC in the first match of the BOV Premier League for the new year.
The Stripes suffered two defeats in their last two outings against Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers respectively leaving them with only one win to show from their last six league matches. Birkirkara, who fell to the fifth place just before the Christmas break, will be all out to return to winning ways and get back on the right track.
Mosta also suffered two defeats in their last outings, after a goal-less draw against Valletta. They lost 2-0 against Hibernians, and then suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Gzira United. After this match, Mosta parted ways with coach Ivan Zammit, and then this Monday Zsolt Hornyák took his stead.
The Stripes are in the fifth place, five points under Floriana but with a game in hand. A victory will see them putting pressure on the Greens in the race for the fourth place while it will also lift them three points over Sliema Wanderers who were held in a 1-1 draw against St. Andrew's in the last match.
Coach Nikola Jaros will be boosted with the return of two key players Srdjan Dimitrov and Nikola Vukanac. Dimitrov will be making his return after missing the last two matches while Vukanac skipped the last game against Sliema Wanderers through suspension. On the other hand, Mosta will have Njongo Priso suspended.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and will kick off at 19:30.
In the first-round match, a goal in each half by Srdjan Dimitrov and Frank Temile gave the Stripes a 2-0 victory.
Come on the Stripes!
