Birkirkara beat Naxxar in friendly match

A goal in each half by Srdjan Dimitrov and Frank Temile gave Birkirkara FC a narrow 2-1 victory over Naxxar Lions FC in a friendly match played this evening. This was the last friendly match before the start of the BOV Premier League 2016-2017.

Srdjan Dimitrov fired the Stripes ahead after just eight minutes. From a free-kick from the left, technical midfielder Dimitrov hit a wonderful curling drive that hit past the Naxxar Lions goalkeeper, Omar Borg.

Dimitrov was unlucky not to score his second personal goal and the second for the Stripes on the twenty-eighth minute. Djordjevic served Dimitrov who struck another brilliant curling drive that surprised goalkeeper Borg but his effort smashed against the crossbar.

Naxxar made the score level six minutes from time. Goalkeeper Ini Akpan failed to hold a back-pass by Edward Herrera, with opportunistic Duane Bonnici stealing possession from the Birkirkara goalkeeper and slotting the ball in an empty net.

Birkirkara regained the lead seven minutes into the second half. Following fine movement on the left, Frank Temile received possession inside the box and fired a powerful shot in the right top corner to regain Birkirkara's lead.

The Stripes could have made them three on the sixty-seventh minute when they were awarded a penalty. However, from the eleven-metre spot, Ryan Camenzuli saw his fierce effort smashing against the crossbar and the result remained unchanged.
