Stripes seek precious points
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd January 2015Birkirkara FC will be seeking to start 2015 on a positive note, when on Sunday they face Mosta FC in the BOV Premier League.
Trailing fifteen points behind the unbeaten leaders Hibernians FC, many are claiming that Birkirkara do not have much of a real chance of challenging for this year's Premier League title, but with the league reaching its mid-stage, the Stripes will be seeking to step-up their level.
Birkirkara have won three out of their last four matches, only dropping two points in a goal-less draw against Balzan FC. In their last match, they scored a goal at the end of each half to beat Qormi FC with a 2-0 score to return to winning ways.
On the other hand, Mosta, after a positive start, continued to disappoint in their last matches. After defeating Pieta Hotspurs with a 3-1 score, they were held in a 1-1 draw against Zebbug Rangers while they suffered a 2-1 and 1-0 defeats in their last two outings against Naxxar Lions and Balzan respectively.
The Stripes will be boosted with the return of the midfield duo, Paul Fenech and Ryan Scicluna. Brazilian player, Rafael Ledesma should also be available for Mr. Paul Zammit's selection following missing the last games.
Mosta have Tyrone Farrugia and Pedro Dos Santos Calcado suspended while Daniel Mariano Bueno is ruled-out injured. Bojan Kaljevic and Kurt Zammit are no longer available as they joined Balzan FC and Zebbug Rangers FC. On the plus side, they have re-signed Yannick Ossok, who had played for them in season 2012-2013.
In the first-round match, a goal each by their Brazilian forward duo of Ellinton Morais and Eliandro Gonzaga in the second-half enabled Birkirkara to register a 2-0 victory over Mosta.
The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
