BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC 2-1 Mosta FC

Birkirkara FC climbed to the sixth place of the BOV Premier League as they returned to winning ways and defeated Mosta FC with a 2-1 score in a match from the BOV Premier League played on Saturday afternoon.

The Stripes scored twice in the opening twenty-five minutes courtesy of a goal each by Isaac Ntow and Matthew Guillaumier. Mosta narrowed the gap early in the second half but the Stripes held strong to the victory.

By this victory, the Stripes climbed to the sixth place with twenty-four points as they overleaped Mosta and Balzan who the latter lost to leaders Valletta. For the Stripes, this victory extended their positive run in this second round.

Coach Andre Paus made two changes from the last match. Cain Attard, who returned from a one-match ban, replaced Ryan Fenech while Yannick Yankam replaced Johann Bezzina. Diego Capel was ruled out with a minor injury.

The Stripes took an early lead as they broke the deadlock after nine minutes. Roderick Briffa delivered an excellent cross on the second post and Isaac Ntow hit a firm header past goalkeeper Nicholas Vella.

Birkirkara remained the better team and doubled their lead on the twenty-fifth minute. Youngster Paul Mbong served Matthew Guillaumier outside the box and the latter hit a thunderous shot that flew in the top corner of the net.

Mosta started the second half strongly and they narrowed the gap on the fifty-fourth minute. Christian Eric Chaney hit a long-distance shot that surprised goalkeeper Andrew Hogg.

The Blues tried to apply some pressure in the final moments, but it was the Stripes who went close to put the match the bed as they held strong for their third victory in the last five matches.

Mathhew Guillaumier was voted the BOV Player of the Match.
