by Ayrton Galea - 11th February 2017Birkirkara FC will be seeking to maintain their positive run in the BOV Premier League when they will be involved in a direct clash for the fourth place against Floriana FC.
Birkirkara and Floriana, two teams who are challenging for the a top-three finish in the league to secure a participation in European Competitions, will go head to head as both teams will be looking to make a statement of their potential.
Coach Nikola Jaros is leaving his mark on the team as the Stripes showed improvement in their last outings. They recovered well from the narrow defeat against Valletta by beating Hibernians and Gzira United with an identical 2-1 score to get back in the race for a top-three finish.
On the other hand, Floriana had their run of eleven matches without a defeat halted with back-to-back defeats against Sliema Wanderers and Gzira United. However, they returned to winning ways in their last match with a 4-0 victory over Mosta FC.
After twenty-one matches played, the Stripes are fourth, just one point over Floriana. The Stripes will be all-out to keep the pressure on Valletta, who are in the third place while the Greens will be willing to get back in the fourth place after they were leapfrogged by the Stripes in the last two weeks.
Coach Nikola Jaros is expecting to have a full-squad at his disposal while Floriana's coach Giovanni Tedesco must do without Clyde Borg who will be serving a one-match ban.
In the first round match, a goal by Vito Plut in the first-half was cancelled by Nicholas Chiesa's goal in the second half, and the Stripes and the Greens shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 16:00. Transport for the match will leave Valley Road at 14:30.
