Stripes take on St. Andrew's
by Ayrton Galea - 4th October 2015Birkirkara FC will be hoping to continue building some momentum after the narrow victory against Qormi when this afternoon, they will face the newly-promoted side of St Andrew's FC in a match where the Stripes will start as favourites.
Relieved after the narrow victory over Qormi which put them in the fourth place and just three points away from joint-leaders Balzan and Hibernians, the Stripes are expected to build on their last display.
All looked on course for the Stripes in the last match as till the final stages they were leading with a two-goal lead. However a gifted goal in the last moments put the Yellow-Backs back in contention but the Stripes held strong to pick-up maximum points.
Lying in the fifth place with a game in hand, Birkirkara have eleven points from six matches as they won three matches, drew twice and lost once against Valetta. They are unbeaten in the last three matches as they picked two victories while held in a draw by Mosta.
On the other hand, St. Andrew's are finding it hard to cope with the Premier League level as they have lost all six matches and are anchored at the bottom of the table with no points, joint with Naxxar Lions.
However, they have been showing signs of improvement lately, and they must feel unlucky not to take something from the last match against Sliema Wanderers, which the latter won with an unfortunate own goal.
The Stripes must still do without Mauricio Mazzetti who will be serving his second and last match ban while Nikola Vukanac is doubtful as he is returning from an injury.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 15:00.
Come on the Stripes.
