Stripes and City battle for second place

by Ayrton Galea - 7th February 2015

Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC will cross swords this Sunday's, in a match where only a win will do for either, to keep their title aspirations alive.

Last weekend both teams had a golden opportunity to narrow the gap with the leaders Hibernians, when they were held in a 1-1 draw against Mosta. However, both Birkirkara and Valletta failed to benefit from the Paolites' slip. Birkirkara were held in another 1-1 draw, while Valletta went down 2-1 to Balzan.

Despite last weekend's result being a rather disappointing one, the Stripes were able to extend their unbeaten streak to nine matches, with six wins and three draws, with the only defeat in this round arriving in the first match of the second round.

On the other hand, Valletta also enjoyed a very positive run in the second round, but last weekend's defeat was the second one in this round, and the sixth in the league.

The Stripes will be boosted with the return of Rowen Muscat, who is expected to make his first appearance after rejoining our Club last week. However, Ryan Scicluna is suspended after collecting his fourth yellow card in the last match.

In the first round match, a goal in each half by Rafael Ledesma and Ellinton Morais meant a 2-0 victory for Birkirkara over Valletta.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.

Come on the Stripes!
