Birkirkara FC present new signings and announce Club's targets
by Ayrton Galea - 8th October 2014Birkirkara FC presented their new signings while delivering a clear statement of their targets for the 2014-2015 season in a press conference held at the Eurosport outlet in Birkirkara this afternoon.
Mr. Joseph Zammit, Birkirkara FC's Club President assured that the Club is once again aiming to challenge for all possible honours, even if the team is in a transition period of settling down, after last season having lost the title in the last ninety minutes.
The Club's President opened by saying that following losing the title on the last day, the committee felt the need to enforce the squad with a number of foreign players. Also, the committee signed Edmond Agius to fill the gap left by Rowen Muscat who continued his football career abroad. He also explained that in the last days of Summer Transfer Market, Joseph Zerafa showed his wish to continue his career in a foreign league and the committee accepted his request.
Regarding the new season, Mr. Zammit said that the season is still in its initial phase and the new players still need to settle in, including the two Under-19's Team players Antoine Borg and Kurt Zammit.
He went on by saying the Club's targets are once again to challenge for all the honours and the committee with the technical staff is assesing the squad in these months to do the needed enforcements in the January Transfer Window if needed.
The Club's president concluded his speech by saying that the Club will do its utmost to once again be the main contender for the BOV Premier League title.
Club's Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit started by giving a quick roundup of the season so far. The team started training at the end of May and went on with the best possible and most professional way of preparations thanks to a training camp in France. It was ithen nvolved in the UEFA Europa League and went on by winning the BOV Super Cup.
The Birkirkara Coach reminded everyone of the big changes that the team went through, as ten players have left the Club, including four foreigners and believes that its a normal that the team will need some time to settle down.
Mr. Zammit admitted that his team went from hot and cold patches throughout the first seven BOV Premier League games and he is asking for more consistent performances from his players, even if so far Birkirkara have not played one single match with full strength squad.
He then talked about the Premier League format, and he showed his total disagreement with this decision, as he believes that we're looking at the rest and not at the best. He explained the difficulties that the Maltese Football is facing and having a more competitive league with less teams should be the solution. He went on by explaining that there is also a waste of many players in the Youth Development where huge rooms of improvement should be done.
The Birkirkara Coach concluded by saying that the team will look forward with optimism as Birkirkara are one of the top Clubs on our islands and everyone involved in this beloved club should roll his sleeves and work harder to keep this status for the Club.
