Kurt Zammit ready to leave his mark
by Ayrton Galea - 1st October 2014Kurt Zammit's inclusion as a substitute has left a positive impression in the early stages of this season, and a day before facing Tarxien Rainbows FC, we have talked with the youngest player of the Senior Team.
Introduced in the final fifteen minutes of the match against Mosta, Kurt made a quick impact in the match by making some excellent footwork, before serving Eliandro Gonzaga who doubled the lead ten minutes from time. Kurt told us, “We gave a good performance but we struggled in the final third of the pitch to have shots on goal. It was a difficult match as they defended in numbers and almost closed all spaces but we were patient enough to find a way to score and we stayed compact so they couldn't surprise us. The thing we did best, and that helped us win the game, was that when needed, we raised the tempo of the game.”
Making five appearances out of six matches, the future for Kurt promises to be a bright one. The eighteen-year old striker said, “I try to make every chance I get to matter, so I always try to give my best in every game, to help the team grab the three points at the end of every match.”
He added, “Thanks to the Coach Paul Zammit, who is showing a lot of interest in my abilities, my confidence will increase with every game I play. Saying that, my motivation is to get a regular place in the starting-eleven of Birkirkara, and another step in my career is to play with the Under 21 Nation Team”
Coming from two consecutive victories and an excellent performance in the last match, Birkirkara will face Tarxien Rainbows in a tricky match tomorrow, but Kurt is optimistic that they can make them three in a row. “It is very important to win matches like these, when you start as favourite. We are preparing very well for our next game. We are ready and mentally prepared to grab the three points”
Five wins from six matches proves the positive start of the Stripes' campaign, and we asked Kurt about his personal and the Club's targets. “From the performances that we're giving, we're once again the main contenders. It is obvious that we're going to challenge for every possible honour. On a personal note, I have done my first assist for Birkirkara FC, and now I hope and wish for more fine performances to help this team.”
Kurt said, “I conclude this interview by leaving a message to our supporters. Keep supporting us always, even when we are going through bad moments. Your support is very important for us. We will work hard to repay your support, at the end of the league!”
