Birkirkara all out to keep title bid on track

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd February 2014

Birkirkara FC will be all out to keep their championship title bid on track, when tomorrow afternoon they will start their Championship Pool commitments against Balzan FC.

Two defeats, one to halt their impressive winning streak of thirteen matches in the league, and one to trash their Knock-out aspirations, brought Birkirkara to the harsh reality that in football disappointments are part of the game. However tomorrow afternoon, the Stripes will be seeking to start their Championship Pool commitments with a win.

With the points now halved, Birkirkara are enjoying a narrow one-point lead over rivals Valletta, and the title hopefuls will be seeking to regain their winning touch by picking up the second win on the troth in the BOV Premier League.

On other hand, Balzan are over the moon after they managed to achieve dramatic a Championship Pool qualification, decided in the last match, despite that they fell to a narrow defeat against Valletta.

The Balzan squad was strengthened with likes of Pedro Calcado and Bilbao Zarate in the January Transfer Market. Balzan are a transformed side, and one of the most tactical-disciplined sides in the BOV Premier League, under the guidance of Head Coach Jesmond Zerafa.

Both sides have no players suspended. Balzan, will be boosted by the return of Steve Bezzina and Andrew Scicluna who were suspended in the last match against Valletta.

In the first and second round, Birkirkara had identical 2-1 victories.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.

Come on the Stripes!
