Leaders Birkirkara and Mosta to cross swords
by Ayrton Galea - 15th April 2013The Women's Championship race could take a decisive turn tomorrow evening when champions Birkirkara and Mosta who are joint leaders on top of the table will be crossing swords at the Luxol Grounds in the much awaited match.
Having peaked in the best part of the season, the Birkirkara Women's Team can make a crucial step towards winning their second consecutive Championship as a win for the Stripes will send them three points clear on top of the table of the BOV Women's Team.
Stakes are high for both teams as they are both leading the Women's League table, and a win for either team could be a decisive for the league, while a draw will leave everything uncertain which should also be the best result for Hibernians.
Champions Birkirkara who seem to be on fire in their last outings are coming from no less than six consecutive wins and in their last outing they trashed Gozo with a 6-0 score. To receive yet another confidence boost, National midfielder Rachel Cuschieri made her first appearance from the start following an injury after she was included as a substitute in the 3-1 victory over Hibernians.
On the other hand, Women's knock-out and Super Cup winners Mosta suffered their first defeat in the Women's League in their last match when a penalty well-converted by Ylenia Carabott enabled Hibernians to stop Mosta's streak and to give the Blues their first defeat in the league.
With Hibernians beating Gozo in the last outing, Birkirkara, Mosta and the same Hibernians are all on top of the table but Birkirkara and Mosta have tomorrow's game in hand.
The match will be played at the Luxol Grounds and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.
We would like to urge all the supporters to come to the stadium and support our beloved Women's Team.
Come on the Stripes.
