Birkirkara in a must win situation
by Ayrton Galea - 1st March 2013After suffering a disappointing narrow defeat to Sliema Wanderers last week, Birkirkara are in a must win situation to return to the title race. To acheive this the Stripes will have to overcome a difficult test in the form of Hibernians.
With both Birkirkara and Hibernians having the Premier League title in sight, in the match of the week, both teams cannot afford to drop any points. Despite the fact that the Championship Pool phase is still in an early phase, any lost points might still be crucial.
The Stripes did not have the ideal start to the Championship Pool as they suffered a disappointing defeat to Sliema Wanderers, which saw them failing to keep the pace with leaders Valletta and Hibernians and fell four points behind these two teams.
On the other hand, Hibernians had the perfect launch in the second phase as they registered a fine 3-0 victory over neighbours Tarxien to emerge as winners in the derby of the South. Thanks to this win, the Paolites registered their sixth game without a defeat following the trashing 4-1 defeat against Valletta.
Shola Shodiya is suspended for Mr. Zammit's side after was sent off for double caution in the last match but Ryan Scicluna will return from a one match suspension.
Hibernians are still seeking the first win over Birkirkara in this Premier League as the Stripes registered a 1-0 victory in the first round, while the second round clash ended in a goal-less draw.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 13:00.
The Birkirkara supporters are allocated the Millenium Stand, Side F.
Come on the Stripes!
