Birkirkara in a decisive clash
by Ayrton Galea - 14th April 2012Birkirkara and Floriana will cross swords in what should be an entertaining and decisive clash for the third place, this Sunday afternoon.
Birkirkara are going through a very positive and as in their last match against Balzan they extended their unbeaten run to seven games. Thanks to the same win against Balzan, ‘The Stripe' completed the first round of the Championship Pool unbeaten. Only Birkirkara and Valletta went through this round unbeaten.
On the other hand, Floriana failed to keep their rhythm in the third phase following two fine rounds. They won two and lost three matches in the third round. After they opened the Championship Pool three points ahead of Birkirkara, they are now lagging by two points.
These two teams already met four times this season. In the Euro Cup they shared the spoils in a goal-less draw. Then, they met three times in the league. Birkirkara won twice with score of 3-0 and 3-1, while in the second round, Floriana picked a 1-0 win.
A win for Birkirkara tomorrow will almost certainly mean that they will end in the third place, as they will go five points ahead of Floriana, with four matches to go. A win for Floriana will put them back in the third place, one point ahead Birkirkara and will once again open wide the challenge for the third place.
Both teams have no players suspended, with the only doubt being about Paul Fenech who is still recovering from the injury suffered in the match against Sliema Wanderers.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 15:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
