Birkirkara in delicate test against Marsaxlokk
by Ayrton Galea - 11th March 2011Birkirkara will be involved in a direct clash for the third place as tomorrow afternoon 'The Stripes' will face Marsaxlokk.
Birkirkara have now gone two matches without a win. After the first match of the Championship Pool phase when they managed to beat Tarxien Rainbows with a score of 3-1, in the last two outings 'The Stripes' failed to pick up maximum points. After they were held in a 1-1 draw by Hamrun Spartans, and their hopes for remaining Champions for another season were dashed by Valletta last Saturday, since 'The Citizens' emerged as winners with a solitary goal.
On the other hand, Marsaxlokk are going through a good path and in fact, they are still unbeaten in the Championship Pool. After 'The South Sea-siders' managed to make it to the Championship Pool, they beat Floriana with a score of 4-0, held Valletta in a 1-1 draw and last Friday they beat Tarxien Rainbows with one goal to nil.
It seems that Mr. Paul Zammit will never have all his players available this season. For the next match Michael Fraser, Rowen Muscat and Shaun Bajada are all ruled-out injured.
After losing to Valletta, Birkirkara are now in the fourth place, one behind Marsaxlook. A win will put 'The Stripes' at least temporarily in second place, pending the outcome of the match on Sunday when Floriana will face leaders Valletta.
Matches against Marsaxlokk never were an easy task and many consider them as Birkirkara's bogey team. 'The Stripes' have dropped too much points against them, and in fact the last win for Birkirkara over Marsaxlokk was on the 3rd May 2008 with a score of 2-0.
This season these two teams met twice, and Marsaxlokk emerged as winners on both occasions with scores of 5-2 and 2-0 respectively.
The match will be played at the Hibs Ground and it will kick-off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road will leaves at 15:00.
Come on the Stripes!
