Unlucky Birkirkara fail to progress
by Matthaeus Grasso - 8th November 2009On Firday, Birkirkara were eliminated from the 'National League 100th Anniversary Cup' after a penalty shoot-out against Marsaxlokk.
With the Marsaxlokk clan still feeling desperate following their relegation to the first division, the 'Blues' came-out of the dugouts willing to score and win the game, however all of their attempts were dealt with by Jorge Mora.
In the second half, the Birkirkara forward line was doing the talking, as the team from the first division defended time and time again. Despite the constant pressure, the goal never came.
It was down to penalties to decide who progresses to the next round, with Branko Nisevic missing Birkirkara's fourth kick after substitute keeper Omar Borg almost managed to block Marsaxlokk third's shot. The 'Blues' managed to score the all important fifth penalty spot through ex-Birkirkara player, William Camenzuli.
