Birkirkara FC to face eternal rivals Valletta FC
by Ayrton Galea - 7th January 2011Tomorrow evening Birkirkara will be involved in an important clash as in their 13th match of the BOV Premier League, the Maltese Champions will face the current leaders Valletta FC.
'The Stripes' are coming from two consecutive victories against Floriana and Hibernians. The yellow-reds beat Floriana 1-0 thanks to a goal by Patrick Borg. They then won over Hibernians with a 3-1 result thanks to a brace by Paul Fenech with the other goal being scored by Emiliano Lattes.
On the other hand, the Citizens are coming from four consecutive wins as they managed to beat Hamrun Spartans, Vittoriosa, Hibernians and Qormi.
Tomorrow, a win for the yellow-reds could open new hopes for the Championship. In case of a loss the race for the title would be more difficult.
Birkirkara are currently third, ten points behind the same Valletta who are leading the table with 30 points.
As excepted this will not be an easy match especially when for once again Mr. Paul Zammit has several players that can not be in his selection. Manuel Bartolo, Simon Zahra and Trevor Cilia are all ruled-out injured. Nikola Vukanac, Patrick Borg, Rowen Muscat and Shaun Bajada are all doubtful for tomorrow's match.
About this situation brought about by so many injuries we asked Nikola Vukanac if he believes that we can still emerge as winners, and he replied, "If there is some player who does not believe that we can win against Valetta it is better for him to stay home."
As Vukanac also said in yesterday's interview, your support is extremely important and his message for the supporters was, "You cannot imagine how important your support is in every game, especially in matches like these. That's something special for us. When you support us, you are giving us strength in the difficult moments. You are the 12th player and I cannot imagine Birkirkara F.C. without you. I know you are going to be there behind us, like many times you did before."
The match kicks-off at 4pm, and transport will leave from Valley Road at 2pm.
Come on the Stripes!
