In what can be described as a tedious match that never reached a high level of football, Birkirkara managed to beat 1st Division side, Pieta Hotspurs with an odd goal which was scored on the 72nd minute.

Actions and opportunities for both sides were few especially in the 1st half as both goalkeepers were hardly tested.

Scottish goalkeeper trialist, Michael Fraser had his first appearance with the yellow and red shirt.

In the first half both teams adopted a possession tactic with both sides rarely testing the opponents' keeper, and it was only at the 24th minute when the first opportunity came to open the score. Simon Zahra rounded no less than three players before entering the box, then tried to pass the ball to his team mate who was in an ideal scoring position but the latter did not reach the ball in time.

On the 31st minute, the Pieta goalkeeper neutralize a shot from outside.

The first half did not offer much more in terms of spectacle and ended in a goalless draw.

The second half reached a better level of football with both sides creating more opportunities and finally, it was Birkirkara who manage to take the lead 18 minutes from time.

Two minutes in the second half, a corner from the right was met with a header but it was neutralised by the 'Hotspurs' goalkeeper.

On the 49th minute, Pieta tried their luck with a shot, which ended wide.

A Header from a freekick ended wide for Birkirkara.

Michael Fraser performed a good save in the 63rd minute.

Birkirkara tried their luck with a shot from outside the box on the 67th minute.

25 minutes in the second half, another good shot from Birkirkara ended wide.

Finally, Birkirkara took the lead on the 72nd minute when a perfect pass found Emiliano Lattes facing the goalkeeper alone, and the Argentine slotted the ball into the net.

The final opportunity was for Pieta Hotspurs when a good shot ended wide before the referee blew the final whistle.
