Birkirkara FC Women's Team secure league title
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd April 2019Birkirkara FC secured the BOV Women's League title after obtaining the point that they needed by to seal their third consecutive league title following a 2-2 draw against Hibernians FC on Tuesday evening.
With one match to go, the Stripes have a four-point over second-placed Mgarr United going into their final league clash next week. A positive result for the Stripes will mean that they complete an entire league campaign unbeaten.
Led by Coach Melania Bajada, Birkirkara have been crowned champions for the third consecutive time for the first time in the club's history and the eighth one overall. This was also the second consecutive league for the Gozitan coach.
Birkirkara opened a two-goal lead inside the opening thirteen minutes thanks to a goal each by Alishia Sultana following fine curling shot and a penalty converted by Stephania Farrugia.
However, Hibernians fought back and a goal in each half by Shona Zammit and Dorianne Theuma put Birkirkara under pressure in the last few minutes but they held strong to secure the title.
The Stripes will be lifting the league title in their upcoming match against Mgarr United FC which will mark the end of this league campaign.
