Youths League - Pieta' Hotspurs FC vs. Birkirkara FC
by Ayrton Galea - 6th May 2019The Youths League Section A title will be decided this evening when Birkirkara FC and Pieta' Hotspurs FC will go head to head in the title decider in a match that will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium (Kick Off - 20:00).
Birkirkara FC and Pieta' Hotspurs FC played a starring role in the last weeks of this year's league title and tonight's match provides the perfect finale to one of the most balanced league titles in the last years after both teams finished with thirty-four points after eighteen matches.
With the Stripes registering three wins and three draws in the first nine matches, they looked down and out from challenging for the league title at the end of the first round, nonetheless that they had one of the strongest teams on paper.
However, the team led by Coach Herman Bugeja and his assistant Maurice Pace produced a remarkable comeback in the second round that saw them winning no less than seven matches, drew once and just lost one match.
Their last match, which could have decided the title race, saw the Stripes scoring a dramatic late goal by one of their key-players Jordan Sciberras to defeat Valletta FC with a 3-2 score after the Citizens cancelled Birkirkara's early two-goal lead.
While Jordan Sciberras' goal proved to be the most important goal of the season to stay in the title race, Ayrton Attard has once again stolen the limelight of the top scorers' chart by finishing first with twelve goals. This was the second consecutive season that Attard finished the top scorer of this competition.
On the other hand, Pieta' Hotspurs FC had similar fortunes in both rounds after winning eighteen points in the first round and sixteen in the second round. They are coming from a comfortable victory against Hibernians FC with a 3-0 score.
Both teams met twice in this league campaign with the two teams winning a match each. Pieta' Hotspurs won the first-round match with a 3-1 score while the Stripes won the second-round match with a 3-2 score.
We would like to encourage all the supporters to come to the stadium and support the Under-19's Team.
