Zack Cassar keen to work harder
by Ayrton Galea - 18th January 2018Zack Cassar stated that following his debut in the BOV Premier League, in which he described as a dream coming true, he is now looking forward to work even harder to reach his ambition of securing more playing time with the Senior Team, while keep performing with the Under-19's Team.
Cassar was included as a substitute four minutes from time in the comfortable 3-0 victory over Mosta FC. He became the fourth player from the Under-19's Team to make his debut in the BOV Premier League, and the fifth one to debut with the Senior Team in all competitions this season.
Zack needs no introduction, as he has been playing with our Club from the small age of four years old. The versatile defender, who can either play as a centre-back or side-back is known for his dedication and commitments towards football, and it's by no surprise that he's the Captain of the Under-19's Team.
He opened this interview by describing in his own words his football journey so far and what has led to this important moment. “I have started playing with this Club at the age of four years old but at the age of fourteen, I wasn't finding much space in the team as I wasn't in the best shape, so I decided to take more care of myself by living a healthy lifestyle and it was then when I realised that I wanted football as my profession.
He went on by saying, “As long as I can, I keep myself fit and I train every time I have, including by myself. My motivation was always that to play with the Senior Team. Now that this wish has become a reality, my ambition is now that I keep working as much as I can to find more playing time with the Senior Team as well as continuing to perform with the Under-19's Team”.
A debut in the BOV Premier League was a dream coming true for Zack. “After thirteen years in the academy, one can say that my debut was a dream in which I hoped would come true. Of course, I think every junior who is in our academy shares the same dream: (to be a part of/to play amongst) the Senior Team in the biggest local competition, the BOV Premier League.”
“Thanks to our present coaches; Coach Mr. Herman Bugeja and Coach Mr. Paul Zammit, my dream became a reality. By no means do I wish to remove any merit from previous coaches who I have worked with in the past, but I sincerely thank the coaches who had the utmost faith in me.”
Zack concluded this interview by talking on his future plans. “This was a major step in my life, but for everything that I have worked for, now I need work harder more than ever to keep what I have and keep making progress.”
“My dream is to become a professional footballer, playing with the team I have grew up with and if having the desired opportunities, to play abroad. However, I'm very content that I always had someone to guide and support me, and I look forward to work even harder so, if God permits, my dreams will become a reality.”
