Gianluca Zammit: This was a dream coming true
by Ayrton Galea - 8th January 2018Birkirkara FC Youth Academy product Gianluca Zammit described his debut in the BOV Premier League as a dream coming true, while the promising forward hopes that this was the start of a long journey filled with pleasant memories.
Gianluca, aged 18 years old, had already made his debut with the Senior Team. He enjoyed a memorable debut as he scored the fifth goal in the 5-0 victory over Santa Lucia FC, in the third round of the FA Trophy. Last Friday, he also made his debut in the BOV Premier League when he was included as a substitute in the impressive 4-0 victory over Gzira United FC. He was one of the three Under-19's Team players called-up for this match, while the Stripes had no less than eighth Youth Academy products in their line-up.
Zammit opened this interview by saying, “This was a dream coming true for me. I really feel honoured that I had the opportunity to debut with Birkirkara FC now in the BOV Premier League as well. I really hope that this is the start of a long journey filled with pleasant memories. I would like to thank all the Coaches that I had and presently I have in the Birkirkara FC Youth Academy for their help in my development.”
Despite that this debut certainly filled Gianluca with optimism, the Under-19's Team top scorer in all competitions this season is keeping his feet on the ground. “I am still a player of the Under-19's Team, I need to continue working and be willing to learn to be more prepared for the occasions that I might have again with the Senior Team.”
He added, “Like me, there are other Under-19's Team players who can make it with the Senior Team, and I really would like to thank the Club for having the policy to include youngsters like us in their plans of the Senior Team.”
Gianluca concluded this interview by describing another emotion that came within this debut. “I must say, that besides all the emotions that this debut brought, I felt another emotion moment listening to all the supporters encouraging me on my way to the pitch. The supporters of Birkirkara are very important for the team in the road to success and I feel lucky that I had the opportunity to really feel the emotion of a Birkirkara FC player in a league match.”
