Birkirkara FC signs Jake Grech on long-term contract
by Ivan Mizzi - 18th June 2017Birkirkara FC completed one of the biggest transfers in the Club's history when they reached an agreement with Hamrun Spartans FC for the permanent move of the Under-21's National Team player, Jake Grech. Grech signed a five-year contract with our Club.
Rated as the best young talented midfielder on our island, Jake has been in the interest of many Maltese clubs, but it was our Club who convinced the player with the Club's vision and reached an agreement with Hamrun Spartans FC. Grech's signing is a clear indication of the Club's vision that is of investing in the best Maltese young talent.
Jake is aged just nineteen years old and he has played in all levels of youths in the National Team. He forms part of the Under-21's National Team and he has also been given the captain's armband in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualification's match against Belgium.
On a domestic level, Grech was Hamrun Spartans' captain and inspirational midfielder as he enjoyed an excellent season and despite playing in midfielder, he finished as team's best scorer and the fifth best top-scorer overall in the BOV Premier League with twelve goals.
Jake becomes Birkirkara's second signing, after Luke Montebello who joined our Club on a two years contract. As part of the deal, Daniel Zerafa will be joining Hamrun Spartans FC on a permanent move.
We would like to welcome Jake while wishing him all the best of luck in his adventure with our Club.
