Girls Under-17's Team lose to Gozo
by Ayrton Galea - 19th December 2016Birkirkara FC Girls Under-17's Team conceded the third consecutive defeat in the Girls Under-17's League, when their strong second-half comeback fell short as Gozo emerged as winners with a 6-3 score.
In a match characterised by the strong winds, Gozo opened a most comfortable five-goal lead in the first-half as they were streets ahead of their opponents. For the Gozitans, Jolene Camilleri scored a brace while league's top scorer Maria Farrugia netted a hat-trick in the first-half.
Birkirkara went out with all guns blazing as the wind was now blowing in their favour and they scored two goals in five minutes thanks to the team's top scorer Veronique Mifsud. Samantha Zarb scored Birkirkara's third goal to put the Stripes back in the match but another goal by Farrugia sealed the issue for Gozo.
The Stripes will be all-out to return to winning ways in the first match of 2017, when they take on Raiders on the 15 January. The match will be played at the Kirkop Grounds and it will kick off at 09:00.
