Charles Sciberras awarded Gieh Birkirkara
by Ivan Mizzi - 13th December 2016Birkirkara FC Youth Academy's Charles Sciberras has been recognised for his sterling work during the last thirty-three years by being awarded Gieh Birkirkara, in the 2016 edition, by the Birkirkara Local Council.
Charles first got involved with football in Birkirkara with the Birkirkara St. Joseph Sport Club. In 1983, together with other members of Birkirkara St. Joseph, he approached Birkirkara FC to set up the Birkirkara FC Youth Nursery. Thus, Charles was one of the founders of the Nursery.
Charles gave all he could to the nursery. He is a qualified coach and hundreds of players were under his care, including some Birkirkara FC stalwarts such as Antoine Zahra. He was an active voluntary member of the Nursery, and now of the Academy.
During his time with the Nursery, Charles served both as a coach and as a committee member. He had an important role when lately the nursery was recognised as an 'Elite Academy'.
Besides coaching and his role in the committee, Charles is always there to give a helping hand. He always gave his utmost so that the Infetti Training Centre's premises are kept up to the highest standards.
Following this award, we spoke to Charles who thanked a number of important persons who have worked or still working in the Birkirkara FC Youth Academy.
“I would like to thank the persons who put my nomination, Ivan Mizzi and in this occasion I would like to mention some persons that throughout my thirty-three years in this Academy; Mario Borg that I started working with him in Birkirkara and he had worked a lot for the nursery, Joe Borg that he was in the Youth FA and he a Birkirkara FC representative and Gillu Pace who was a committee member u helped for the nursery to establish.”
“I would like to take the occasion, that during this time that I have been working in this Academy, I would like to thank a number of parents who helped in the structure and the synthetic. I would like to thank all the presidents that I have worked and all present committee members that deserved this award as well.”
“I conclude by saying that in Birkirkara there are people who weren't lucky as me to nominate them and they did a lot for the better of Birkirkara, because I believe that compared to other persons, there are others who did much better than me but never got nominated.”
We would like to take this opportunity to both congratulate on receiving this award, and to thank Charles for his dedication, commitment and sterling service towards the Club, its Academy and its younger players.
