Under-17's Team makes them three in a row
by Ayrton Galea - 27th November 2016Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team registered the third consecutive victory to maintain their sole leadership in the APS Bank Under-17's League Section A with a very satisfactory 6-2 victory over Balzan FC.
In an entertaining first-half, Balzan registered the perfect start as they broke the dead-lock early in the match thanks to a Brandon Mifsud's diagonal shot who beat Birkirkara goalkeeper Amara Sylla. The Stripes made the score level thanks to Ayrton Attard who rounded a defender and placed the ball past goalkeeper Dejan Agius, after well served by Karl Caruana.
Birkirkara went close to take the lead as Ayrton Attard's corner hit the foot of the post and from the resulting counter attack Luca Ganado made it 2-1 for Balzan. However, the Stripes managed to equalise again through Ayrton Attard following a devastating run on the left by Lian Formosa as the first-half ended in a 2-2 draw.
Birkirkara upped their tempo in the second half and took the lead for the first time in this match following a well taken set-piece which was concluded by Briam Mifsud to make the score 3-2 in the Stripes' favour.
Debutant Sebastian Grech netted a brace in few minutes with two fine lobs following through balls by Pail Mbong and Carlo Zammit Lonardelli. Karl Caruana sealed the game with a well-placed shot after a fine run by the same player.
Birkirkara will now face Sirens FC in the knock-out competition on Sunday, 4 December at the Charles Abela Stadium and it will kick off at 08:30.
