Stripes to take on Gzira United

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd October 2016

Birkirkara FC will be willing to continue building on last week's brilliant victory when this afternoon, they will take on newly-promoted side, Gzira United FC.

After they had shared the spoils with Valletta in a 1-1 draw before the international break, the Stripes rose to the occasion and narrowed the gap with leaders Balzan when they produced a five-star display to defeat them with a comfortable 3-0 score. Thanks to this victory, the Stripes moved just three points under the leaders.

On the other hand, Gzira United has picked up only a point from the last three matches when they obtained a draw against Hibernians but they lost to Balzan and Valletta respectively. Despite ended the match with empty hands in their last 3-1 defeat against the Citizens, the Maroons gave a good account of themselves.

The Stripes are in the second place with sixteen points, three under leaders Balzan and two over Valletta and Hibernians. On the other hand, Gzira are in the eighth place with eighth points level points with St. Andrew's and Tarxien Rainbows respectively.

Coach Drazen Besek will welcome back defender Predrag Jovic after he was suspended in last week's match against Balzan.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it will kick off at 15:00.

Come on the Stripes!
