Women's Team defeat Army Medical Services in friendly match
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd August 2016Birkirkara FC Women's Team registered a very comfortable 5-0 victory in a friendly match played on Tuesday evening against the UK Army Medical Services. Newcomer Ann-Marie Said netted a brace while Kelly Agius, Tracy Theuma and Stephania Farrugia scored a goal each.
All seems to be going well for Coach Shawn Meilak's side as the team's preparations are reaching an intensive stage. The Stripes dominated this match right from the start as they built a comfortable two-goal cushion inside the first half before adding three goals in the second half to add gloss to a deserved victory.
The Stripes looked superior from the start and they broke the dead-lock after twenty minutes. Tracy Teuma picked Isabelle Mazzitelli inside the box who passed the ball to Kelly Agius Pace and the latter's close-range header beat goalkeeper Jess Morsley.
Birkirkara doubled the lead five minutes later. Alishia Sultana dashed forward before serving Teuma on the run who from her side showed great technique to dribble past two markers and placing the ball at the back of the net.
The Stripes made them three just past the hour mark. Theuma penetrated on the right flank before her cross was short-cleared and the ball landed at the fee of Ann-Marie Said who drilled a first-time low shot past goalkeeper Morsley.
Said was on the scoring sheet again five minutes later with the goal of the evening. Tracy Theuma, who undoubtedly shined with her technique, delivered a precise corner on the second post which saw Said perfectly timing the ball to rise high and hit a bullet header past the goalkeeper.
Captain Stephania Farrugia rounded an enjoyable evening with the fifth and last goal twenty minutes from time. Attacking from midfield, Farrugia produced a solo action with a fine shot from outside the box which surprised goalkeeper Morlsey who could only deflect the ball before going in.
