Stripes to start second round commitments against Naxxar Lions
by Ayrton Galea - 21st November 2015Birkirkara FC will be seeking to extend their unbeaten run in the BOV Premier League when in the first match of the second round, they will face Naxxar Lions FC.
The Stripes will be starting the second round with a high morale after extending their unbeaten streak with a goal-less draw against Floriana, where the Stripes played over twenty minutes with one player less, after Joseph Zerafa was sent for a double booking in quick succession.
Birkirkara's slow start in the BOV Premier League with a defeat and two draws in the first five matches has been surpassed with recent results as they are now currently the most consistent side in the Premier League, enjoying an eighth match unbeaten run while also having the best attack and the best goal difference.
Naxxar Lions are third from bottom but they are also enjoying a positive run, as they collected seven points from their last four matches. They beat Mosta with a surprising 2-0 score and St. Andrew's with a 2-1 score, while they earned a point in a 1-1 draw against Qormi in their last match, to recover from a 2-1 defeat against Sliema Wanderers.
The Stripes are temporarily in the third place sharing the spot with Hibernians, three points behind leaders Valletta who defeated St. Andrew's yesterday evening, and one point behind Balzan. All three teams following the leaders have a game in hand. On the other hand, Naxxar are enjoying a two-point lead over Qormi and seven points over bottom-placed St. Andrew's.
Coach Giovanni Tedesco will have to do without three regular players as Joseph Zerafa and Paul Fenech are suspended while Fabrizio Miccoli is still recovering from an injury suffered in the last match in the goal-less draw against Floriana.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:15.
Come on the Stripes!
