Gareth Sciberras to mark his return in the BOV Super Cup
by Ayrton Galea - 11th August 2015Club's Captain Gareth Sciberras is determined to open the season on a positive note and mark his return by winning the BOV Super Cup. He said this during the pre-match press conference of tomorrow's much-awaited match against Hibernians FC.
Gareth Sciberras struggled for seven terms with his injury, but the Club's Captain is set for a return for tomorrow's much awaited BOV Super Cup against Champions Hibernians FC.
Gareth opened by saying, “This match will be emotional for me, as I have finally regained my fitness, and I am available for selection. Honestly I can say, that after I had to stop during this pre-season with another injury, it was a very difficult moment. However, I have received a lot of support from our Coach and his Technical Team”
“The club of Birkirkara showed me great respect, they backed me throughout the whole journey, and they didn't put any pressure. I believe that Birkirkara are a great example for every Maltese club of how it should respect the player.”
“With the introduction of seven foreign players, the Club could have easily replaced me, but they showed total faith in me. I am also very lucky to have a very supportive family and thanks to them, I am here, in a pre-match press-conference of the Super Cup. Few months ago, I couldn't see it happen.”
Gareth, winner of two BOV Super Cups with the Stripes, said, “We want to be present in every honour that Maltese Football offers. We are determined to open this new season on a positive note by winning the BOV Super Cup.”
One could argue that this team can possible be the best one that the Stripes ever had in the last years, and Gareth said, “I believe that the team of Birkirkara increased its potential gradually. The Club has been investing in this team for the last years. We have been consistent, winning the league, trophy and two Super Cups. We have also achieved positive results in European Competitions, not only this year, but also two years ago. In view of all this, yes, I believe that this year's team can really be the strongest one that the Club have ever had in the last years.”
