Stripes, City in battle for the Final
by Ayrton Galea - 16th May 2015Football rivals Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC will be all-out to be the first finalist of the Malta FA Trophy in this year's, edition when they cross swords in the much-awaited clash this afternoon.
For both clubs, the FA Trophy has a further significance besides being the second most prestigious football competition on our island, as they want to make up for their disappointing league campaign. The Stripes will be aiming to win this honour after seven years, while Valletta will be seeking to keep the trophy for another year.
The Stripes adventure in this year's edition started by eliminating Siggiewi 4-0, then went on to beat Hamrun Spartans 7-1 in the third round. In the Quarter Final they knocked-out Pieta with a 3-0 win. On the other hand, Valletta defeated Birzebuggia with a 7-1 score in the third round, Melita with a 2-0 score in the fourth round and made it to the semi-finals with a 3-1 victory over Mosta FC.
Valletta's goalkeeper Pietro Marino will be serving a one match ban and is therefore ruled out for this match. Steve Borg and Jonathan Caruana are reportedly not fit for selection for Valletta due to injuries. Shola Shodiya is recovering from a knee operation and is not available for Birkirkara.
Birkirkara‘s clan had a morale boost this week, as three National Team players, that is Justin Haber, Rowen Muscat and Paul Fenech, all signed new contracts with the Club.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 17:00. Transport to the match will leave at 15:30 from the Infetti Training Grounds, via Valley Road.
We would like to encourage you to come to the stadium and support our beloved Club.
