Motivated Sciberras ready to leave her mark
by Ayrton Galea - 20th April 2015Mariah Sciberras played an excellent role in last week's 7-0 win over Pembroke Athleta and for this week's interview, we talked with the youngest player that forms part of the Women's Team.
At the tender age of fifteen years old, Mariah forms part of the Senior Team, and in her first season with the Senior Team, she has so far made fourteen appearances and scored five goals. She also forms part of the Under-16's Team where she enjoyed a satisfactory season
We opened this interview by asking her about last Tuesday's game, and Mariah said “We were prepared for this game, as we trained hard during the five weeks we stopped and this showed on the pitch. We implemented our training sessions well which is always important. We were very organised throughout the pitch, especially in defence which resulted in a clean sheet.
She went on by sharing her views about her display, “I think I did quite well although there is always room for improvement. I managed to handle the game and gave my 100 percent. I was very satisfied with my performance, and with scoring two goals and also making an assist. Most importantly the team got the result.”
Mariah told us, “It is not that hard for me personally being the youngest player in the squad. So far this season I can honestly say that I have team mates with a golden heart and this helps me gain more confidence. They guide me throughout training sessions and games and always tell me the areas in which I can improve on. Due to this I think I manage to adapt quite well with them.”
Balancing between school studies, football and free-time is certainly the headache of every amateur footballer. We asked Mariah about her situation as she is going through an intense year of her studies. “I find it quite hard to balance between all three, but after all football is a part of my life, and even though I find it difficult sometimes, I always try my best to do my studies, and take a break with football, and continue with my studies after.”
This evening the Women's Team will take on Mgarr United. Mariah said “This game is an important one in our challenge to win the league. I am looking forward to get back at Mgarr for the disappointing result in the second round, and I am positive that my team is also ready to do the same. We are very well prepared and trained. We will go all out from the very first second of the match and that we will not stop till the final whistle.”
Mariah went on by saying “The dressing room atmosphere is a positive one, and almost out of this world. We all get along with each other very well, and the bond between one another is truly unbelievable. This is special and it is very important to maintain for future successes.”
With just three matches to go, Mariah said, “The title race isn't over yet. I believe we can win it if we keep playing like this and keep the positive results. We train our hearts out in every training session and I think we can cause an upset and overcome Hibernians.”
We shifted our attention on her personal targets, “My targets for the remainder of the season are to help my team win the league, and the Knock-out. As I have already mentioned, we will do our best to do this and not give up on the pitch. My future targets are to win more titles with Birkirkara.F.C and to get a regular place in the starting eleven.”
Finally, Mariah concluded this interview by saying, “I would like to thank all the supporters that come to watch our games we all appreciate their support. We would like to encourage even more supporters of Birkirkara to come and support us.”
