'With the players we have, expectations should be high' - Kirstie Vella

by Ayrton Galea - 24th February 2015

Determined defender Kirstie Vella believes that it is every footballer's dream to win an honour and that is what her team will be seeking to do this season. She said this during an interview just a few hours before the Women's Team take on Kirkop United FC.

We started this interview by talking with the twenty-third year old about this evening's match. She said “We are going out for a win, and we are not going into any game worrying about the other team. We're a good team and our expectations are high. With the players we have, our expectations should be high.”

We asked Kirstie about tonight's preparations for this match and she replied, “We studied our weaknesses and worked hard to improve them. We are all very focused and aiming to win the league. There is lots of laughter and fun, but there is also concentration, when needed. We are all like a big family, enjoying each other's success and pushing each other to do well. So overall, there is a good atmosphere.“

Coming to this match following a draw against Hibernians, we asked Kirstie's for her views about this match. Kirstie said “The two teams were very strong and were in good form. It started off very well. We did not feel that we were under threat, even though the adversaries had a goal in the beginning of the second start, which was a bit nerve-wrecking. But we did really well as a team to see it out. We battled until the end, till we achieved the goal. For the upcoming matches I suggest that we try to look more for each other on the pitch, so all together we'll achieve our goal.”

Kirstie's went on by saying, “During the previous two matches I wasn't a regular starter, but I always thought about carrying on training, working harder and identifying areas where I need to improve and work on them. I'll strive to be at my best, to experience once again the full 90 minutes in the pitch.

“I'm happy with how my season is going. Obviously, I would like to participate more during each game, so that I can help the team, but I know that the time will come, and when it does I will be there to take it. ‘One can achieve anything in life through hard work' so I won't give up on improving more, to reach a better standard level.”

Shifting our subject to the team's targets, Kirstie was unequivocal: “When we lose, we get wound up, and that's a good thing because we all want to win. That means that our hunger for success has not decreased. I believe in all of us that we can write more history this season. It's every footballer's dream, to go out on top form, and winning another trophy.”

Kirstie signed off with a message: “I would like to thank all the supporters, friends and family for coming each and every game, showing their continuous support through the good and the bad moments. We really need their support, because they can help us reach our goals.”
