Women's Team to commence fourth round

by Ayrton Galea - 24th February 2015

The BOV Women's League will commence its fourth and final round this evening, and Birkirkara FC will be seeking to return to winning ways and keep the pace with Hibernians when they take on Kirkop United in a delicate encounter.

Last Tuesday, Birkirkara and Hibernians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the top of the table clash. The draw left Hibernians enjoying a three-point lead on top of the table but saw the Stripes leaving the stadium brimming with confidence, as they kept their title hopes alive after having two key players injured after just forty minutes.

The Stripes registered two fine victories in the opening two matches of the Championship Pool but a surprising defeat at the hands of Mgarr cost them the leadership. However, they made a brilliant reaction and showed great attitude to defeat Raiders, with the winning goal arriving just five minutes from time, before registering the first draw of the season last Tuesday.

The first two rounds' scores against Kirkop United of 5-0 and 4-0, might suggest that this evening the Stripes have an easy task at hand, but things might be very different. Last Tuesday, sixth placed Kirkop registered a 3-1 victory over Pembroke Athleta, and moved three points under the same Pembroke in the challenge of the fifth place.

Birkirkara will have to do without Kim Parnis who is ruled out injured, and Alishia Sultana's condition is doubtful.

The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium in Mosta, and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

We would like to encourage you to come at the Stadium and support the Women's Team.

Come on the Stripes!
