Women's Team all out to stay in title hunt

by Ayrton Galea - 16th February 2015

Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be all out to level points and revive their title hopes on Tuesday evening, when in the top of the BOV Women's League clash, they take on leaders Hibernians FC.

Birkirkara will do their utmost to regain joined leadership in the Women's League, and they will be seeking to register the second win over Hibernians in the league, when they face off in the much-awaited fixture.

On the other hand, laying three points under Hibernians, the Stripes are aware that is as a make-or-break affair, since a defeat for them would seriously dent their title hopes, as they would fall six points under the leaders with just five matches to go.

The last four weeks have been difficult for the Stripes. First they had three points deducted after a protest by Pembroke over an illegible player, and then suffered an unexpected 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mgarr United. However, Birkirkara showed great resilience not to throw in the towel, and last Tuesday they registered a dramatic 1-0 victory over Raiders, with Kelly Agius Pace netting the winning goal five minutes from time.

On the other hand, Hibernians are enjoying a winning streak of eleven-matches, out of thirteen matches playes. They suffered the only defeat in the second match of the league against Birkirkara. They have been devastating in attack by scoring 101 goals, and conceding just six goals, being the best attack in the league.

In the first round match, two goals in the second half by Hanna Tegelmann and Raina Giusti gave the Stripes a 2-0 victory over Hibernians.

Coaches Johann Scicluna and Keith Gouder, for Birkirkara and Hibernians respectively, are not expected to have any selection problems, and can field their best formations.

The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium in Mosta, and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

We would like to encourage all the supporters to come and support the Women's Team in this important match.

Come on the Stripes!
