'A win is what we are after' - Kelly Agius Pace

by Ayrton Galea - 10th February 2015

Women's Team player, Kelly Agius Pace, believes that last week's defeat against Mgarr came as a perfect lesson and at the right time, and today the team is looking for nothing less than three points. She said this during an interview, just a few hours before a very important match against Raiders FC.

We kicked-off this interview with the twenty-third year old forward by talking about the last match. “A defeat for me is a lesson, but the lesson only comes handy when we realise where we went wrong and improve. Considering that on the pitch we were unbeaten throughout the season, makes me believe that actual defeat was the perfect medicine to help us continue in our bid of winning the league. I believe that the natural elements played a huge part on our side, and we didn't adjust our sails to make the best out of the elements.

Kelly went on by saying “Every match, irrelevant against which team, is a final for us. Today's is a tough game like all the games played. I'm hoping it will be a good one, a win is what we are after, and I'm sure we will be doing our utmost to get what we worked for as a team.”

We asked Kelly about the dressing room atmosphere, and she said, “Coming fresh from a defeat, the dressing room atmosphere was different , but in a positive way. It got us closer and more united. We know our flaws and we did all we could to correct them together. Technically and physically we are prepared like every other game.”

About her season so far, Kelly said “I started very well, however it all came down to missing 6 weeks of football due to an ankle injury and other problems. I believe I'm still recovering and I'm not fully satisfied with my performances, but I know I'm on the way and I hope better things and the best will be close.

When questioned about the targets for the season, Kelly replied, “Our targets are winning the league, winning the knock out and making it to the Champions League. I believe in winning the league, as we have talent to make it. It's not the first time, and every league we won, we had always opted for the most difficult path. On the other hand, as a personal target, I wish to be more fit so I can help the team more, and hopefully gevthe league and the trophy home.

Finally, Kelly concluded this interview, with “I would like to thank all those who were always present for the matches, regardless the weather. On the other hand, I would like to encourage more supporters to come and support us. You are our twelfth player and we need you in this crucial phase of the league. On another note, last but not least, I would like to wish a happy birthday to one of our team-mates, Yasmeen Vella.”
