Stripes in a make or break clash against Hibernians
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd January 2015Birkirkara FC will be involved in a make or break top of the table clash tomorrow afternoon when they take on the BOV Premier League leaders, and unbeaten side, Hibernians FC.
Hibernians have been unstoppable this season, and they have earned remarkable fifty-five points from nineteen matches. However, the Stripes' persistence has kept their title hopes alive and it all comes down to tomorrow's big clash which is a veritable do-or-die affair for Paul Zammit's side.
The Stripes struggle during the first part of the season has come at the cost of losing pace with the leaders, but their last eight outings have certainly raised hope for their title challenge.
They are enjoying an-eight game unbeaten run, out of which they have won seven, and they have thus collected twenty-two out of the twenty-four points available, dropping just two points in a goal-less draw against Balzan. In their last match, they earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Floriana.
Hibernians' Premier League campaign has been impressive, and they will be seeking to make a giant step of securing their eleventh league title in tomorrow's encounter, as a win for them would leave the Stripes requiring a sporting miracle to overtake the runaway leaders.
The Paolites dropped just two points in eighteen matches, in the 1-1 draw against Tarxien Rainbows in the first-round match, and they are coming from eleven consecutive victories. Hibernians are enjoying a fifteen-point lead at the top of the table. In their last match they defeated Balzan 4-0.
Both teams are expected to come out with all guns blazing as both sets of coaches should have no selection problems.
In the first-round's match, a goal by Edison Luis Dos Santos after just eight minutes gave a narrow victory for Paolites over the Stripes.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.
Come on the Stripes!
