Alishia Sultana claims BOV Player of the month for December

Birkirkara FC Women's Team player Alishia Sultana's electric performances have rewarded her with the BOV Player of the Month for December, and we spoke with her after receiving this award.

Having been trusted with a role in the forward line, Alishia did not let down this trust, as she has scored five goals in eighth matches, including one goal in December against Sliema Wanderers. Yet, her style of play and excellent work-rate has definitely caught the eye of the local Women's football followers.

Alishia told us “I am very happy to have won this award. It certainly gives me more motivation and a boost to continue improving my performances.

“This season has been great so far. Winning all our matches in the league makes it perfect. I am very happy with my performances, however I aim to keep on working harder and harder in order to get the best out of myself and give my all to the team. “

The Stripes has been unstoppable this season and they are enjoying a nine-match winning streak. We asked Alishia what she thought of this, and she said, “The secret to our success is definitely due to the great chemistry within our team. This year I feel our relationship with each other feels stronger, and together with our dedicated coaches, Coach Johan and Coach John, and our team manager Ayrton, I feel that we all show respect to each other and this is what leads us to success.”

Enjoying a three-point cushion on top of the table and winning all the matches, puts Birkirkara as the main contenders for winning the title. We asked Alishia if she believes that her team can land the league title and she replied “I certainly do. The sacrifices we are doing to train harder as a team and the commitment we show to our love of playing football certainly makes us all believe in winning the title this year. “

We concluded this interview by asking Alishia about her future and she said, “My target for the future is to continue to improve and to learn new skills, which will help me in my career in football. I would like to thank everyone involved in the team together with the coaches who always guide us to our successes, Ayrton who takes care of anything we need. Doreen who takes good care of our kits and especially my parents who are always there to support me.”

Bernard Azzopardi, Manager of Bank of Valletta's Birkirkara branch presented the BOV Female Player of the Month trophy for December 2014 to Alishia.
