Girls Under-16's beat Pembroke Athleta
by Ayrton Galea - 24th December 2014Birkirkara FC Girls Under-16's Team registered their second victory in the Girls League Under-16's Team when thanks to two goals inside the second half, they defeated Pembroke Athleta 2-0.
Following a goal-less first-half, where the Stripes failed to produce good football, the half-time team-talk by coach Johann Scicluna seemed to inspire the girls, who played a much better second half.
The Stripes had an excellent second-half start when they surged ahead after four minutes. Nicole Zammit served Mariah Sciberras, who hit a wonderful strike from outside the box, that gave the Pembroke Athleta goalkeeper, Nicole Micallef, no chance.
Birkirkara, boosted by the opening goal, remained the better side and they sealed the issue six minutes from time. On the forty-fourth minute, Samantha Zarb who came on for Nicole Zammit, scored her first goal with our Club by beating the goalkeeper from a tight angle, after being served by another substitute, Sarah Cassar.
The referee's full-time whistle found the Stripes picking their second victory in the league to end 2014 on a positive note. The Stripes will be involved in their next match on Sunday, 4 January when they take on Mgarr United. The match will be played at the Gharghur Grounds and is scheduled to kick off at 12:00.
