'The best is yet to come' - Zach Muscat
by Ayrton Galea - 18th October 2014National Team defender Zach Muscat believes that the best of Birkirkara is still yet to come and he is relying on his teammates' attitude to start proving this in tomorrow's much awaited clash against Valletta FC.
It has been an inconsistent start for the Stripes who after three straight victories suffered two defeats in the last four matches, but Zach had this to say: “Every year at Birkirkara we started with a bumpy ride then ended up at the top of the table. It takes time especially for the new additions to the team, and after the upset of last season, but we are getting there. For sure the best is yet to come”
Matches against Valletta are always a top-notch fixture in the BOV Premier League. Zach told us “It has been at the back of our heads for a while and we know we are better, only if we play as a team. We all know our jobs. If everyone concentrates on doing their job, then the three points are ours. It is not just matches against Valletta. Yes they are rivals, but for many players such as the foreigners they do not feel the rivalry. Matches with the top quoted teams are always the most wanted. They bring out the best in everyone.”
Following the inconsistent start many might have put doubts in Birkirkara's real strength to challenge for the main honours. However, the determined twenty-one year old defender thinks otherwise and admits that his personal target is winning the U*BET FA Trophy for the first time in his career. We have the best players and a great coach which together make a fantastic squad. Those are the ingredients for champions. Personally with Birkirkara the U*BET FA Trophy is somewhat of a must after losing out on it two years in a row.”
Finally, Zach said “I am close to many supporters and I understand them. They must remember that a league is not one week or one match and you cannot expect to win all matches. Support is what gives us an extra push, which on some days may be what we need to win these matches. Some may not appreciate it but a chant or a song at a certain moment may urge a player to do that extra run. Supporters are responsible for some goals we score just like the support between player to player. Players + Technical Staff + Support = Champions! See you tomorrow!”
