Pre-match Press Conference
by Ayrton Galea - 2nd July 2014Club's Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit and Team's Captain Gareth Sciberras took part in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, before tomorrow's first leg of the UEFA Europa League First Qualifying Round against the Hungarian side, Diasgyor VTK.
Just one day before Birkirkara will clash with Diasgyor, a press conference at the Stadion was held where both coaches and captains gave their views before the first leg match.
Mr. Paul Zammit said, "We know the situation about our Hungarian opponents and even about the Hungarian teams. We know that we are one of the top teams in Malta but we also know that in European Competitions, we can find teams of a higher level."
"However, football in Malta is growing, and we enjoyed good experiences in European competitions, not only Birkirkara but also other Maltese teams. We are prepared and looking forward for this match."
"I dont think that we can compare the situation of the result between Ferencvárosi and Sliema Wanderers, to Birkirkara and Diasgyori, although Sliema are also a top team in Malta, even if the results of last year were in our favour. "
Birkirkara's Coach is showing total faith in his players but he is also aware of the strength of our opponents although the second leg match in Malta will be crucial.
"We have to be realistic and be aware that it is going to be a difficult match, but I am very proud of my boys and I believe in them. The most important thing is to give our best and reach our objectives."
When asked about the supporters coming to the match, Paul Zammit said "Regarding the home match it can vary, especially with the result obtained in the away match. Malta is a small island but our supporters are big in numbers. They support us and they back us through thick and thin. I know that they are going to be there and we are expecting them in numbers if we manage to achieve a good result."
On the other hand, Club's Captain Gareth Sciberras is relying on his teammates' experience at European competitions and international level. "From a player's perspective, I believe that we are prepared well. We will give our best and then we will see from there."
Diasgyori VTK's Coach, Mr. Tomislav Sivic said that his team is also well prepared. "We are very prepared for this match and we are taking it very seriously. We have a lot of information about our opponents. We even saw full matches of Birkirkara's matches not just highlights.
He added, "We know that Birkirkara are one of the best teams in Malta. We also know that they have participated in European Competitions more than we did so we are aware that they are more experienced. "
Diasgyori's Captain, Elek Akos in a very short speech said, "We know the strength of Birkirkara. We have also seen the result of Sliema Wanderers against Ferencvárosi so we have our feet on the ground and we prepared well, and we will give our best on the pitch."
The match will be played tomorrow at the Nagyerdei Stadion, Debrecen and it will kick off at 20:30.
