MFA Awards 2014
by Ayrton Galea - 28th June 2014Three Birkirkara FC players and Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit claimed awards during the MFA Awards 2014 ceremony which was held yesterday at the National Stadium.
Zach Muscat was voted as the Best Young Player. Jhonnattann Benites was voted as the Best Foreign Player and awarded for ending the previous BOV Premier League campaign as top scorer as well. Edward Herrera was voted as the scorer of the best goal. Mr. Paul Zammit was chosen as the Best Coach of the Year.
Zach Muscat – Best Young Player
One of the most promising players on our island, Zach Muscat has been recognised as the best young player for the 2013-2014. Zach had a brilliant season in the heart of the Birkirkara's defence. In the Premier League, he made twenty-eight appearances and scored one goal.
Jhonnattann Benites – Best Foreign Player
Jhonnattann Benites ended the BOV Premier League campaign as the top scorer of the competition and he was awarded as the Best Foreign Player for last season. Jhonnattann made twenty-eight appearances in the BOV Premier League in which he managed to score twenty-one goals while chosen as the BOV Player of the Match for eight times.
Edward Herrera – Best Goal of the Year
Edward Herrera's incredible volley made a hit even in foreign media last December when Birkirkara defeated Hibernians with a 2-1 score with Herrera scoring a gem of a goal. Yesterday, Herrera's goal was voted as the Best Goal of the Year. Edward played twenty-seven matches in the BOV Premier League in which he scored four goals and was voted the BOV Player of the Match for five times.
Mr. Paul Zammit – Coach of the Year
Club's Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit was voted for the second consecutive year as the Coach of the Year after winning this award for the 2012-2013 season. Mr. Zammit is undoubtedly one of the most professional Coaches on our island, besides being one of the coaches that most introduced younger players to play in Malta's top division.
