Under 16 girls register third consecutive victory

Birkirkara Under-16's Girls team registered their third consecutive, by trouncing Hamrun Spartans with a 6-1 score in the Girls' Under-16's League.

The final score speaks for itself, as the Stripes were dominant for the whole fifty minutes. Despite Hamrun pulling one back after Birkirkara were two up, the latter were quick to regroup and add another four goals.

The First Half

Birkirkara launched their first attack after just a minute. Raina Giusti served Alishia Sultana on the right wing, but her fine shot was turned into a corner kick by goalkeeper Lorella Farrugia.

The Stripes threatened again on the fourth minute. Alexia Galea had a dangerous free-kick which saw Raina Giusti flicking the ball over from inside the box.

Birkirkara surged ahead on the sixth minute as Alishia Sultana won a ball in midfield, made an excellent solo-action before slotting the ball home.

Alishia could have scored her second personal goal as after exchanging possession with Tara Attard, but she saw her shot scratching past the right post.

The Stripes made them two on the tenth minute when Raina Giusti had a powerful strike from inside the box hitting hard past the goalkeeper.

Hamrun were quick to get back in the match as on the eleventh minute, Nikita Agius scored a wonderful free-kick from distance.

The Stripes showed fine attitude when just a few seconds after conceding the goal, they restored a two-goal lead. Raina Giusti dribbled two players and her shot beat the goalkeeper.

Birkirkara could have made them four on the fourteenth minute as Alishia Sultana had a brilliant shot ending over.

Michela Felice made a solo-action before she concluded with a low shot, which was pushed away by the goalkeeper past the nineteenth minute.

Felice was in action once again with a solo-action on the twenty-second minute before serving Raina Giusti who had a powerful shot ending over.

However, Raina was quick to make up for this missing opportunity just a minute later. Her strike hit past the goalkeeper to complete her hat-trick.

In a double substitution on the twenty-third minute, Michela Felice and Mariah Sciberras were replaced by Julia Micallef and Sarah Urpani.

Julia Micallef, who had been included seconds earlier, was unlucky not to score Birkirkara's fifth goal as her shot hit the post before it was cleared into safety.

The referee's half-time whistle saw Birkirkara enjoying a comfortable 4-1 lead against Hamrun Spartans.

The Second Half

Birkirkara continued where they left off in the first half, as just a minute in the second half, Raina Giusti could have increased the lead but her shot was blocked.

The Stripes made them five on the twenty-seventh minute as substitute Julia Micallef had a fine shot from diagonal angle hitting past the goalkeeper.

In the third and fourth substitution respectively, Tara Attard and Alexia Galea were replaced with Mireille Bellizzi and Michela Felice on the twenty-eight minute.

Five became six a minute later when Julia Micallef served Sarah Urpani who had her fine shot from inside the box beating the goalkeeper.

Birkirkara continued to dominate and ten minutes in the second half, Alishia Sultana had a shot blocked by the goalkeeper aided by the upright.

The same player was unlucky once again two minutes later as her strike scratched past the left post.

Alishia Sultana, who had been denied lack of luck on previous occasions, was replaced by Samantha Zarb on the thirty-seventh minute.

Sarah Urpani was replaced by Abigail Borg on the fortieth minute.

Ten minutes from the end, Raina Giusti had a fine shot saved by the goalkeeper.

Mr. Johann Scicluna included his last substitute Anthea Enriquez to replace Raina Giusti six minutes from the end.

Birkirkara continued to control the match till the end for a comfortable 6-1 win.
