Stripes take on Mosta
by Ayrton Galea - 14th December 2013An impressive run of seven straight wins and eight matches without defeat in the BOV Premier League have undoubtedly raised Birkirkara's optimism. However, they have to be at their best to extend this run, as tomorrow afternoon they will face another side that is enjoying a positive run, Mosta FC.
The Stripes received another boost of confidence this week as things worked out in their favour. After Birkirkara's 3-1 victory over Sliema Wanderers, Hibernians were defeated by Valletta to leave the Stripes as sole leaders, one point ahead of Valletta.
Mosta had a difficult start to the league as their transition period and their ambitious project of enlisting a big number of foreigners took time to give fruit. However, they are on track to reach their target of securing a Championship Pool place, as they are currently in fifth place, seven points ahead of Floriana and their recent performances continue to boost their hopes.
After being trounced to the tune of 6-0 against Valletta in the first match of the second match, Mosta bounced back as they registered two consecutive victories, 4-1 against Rabat Ajax and 5-2 against Vittoriosa Stars.
Mosta will have to do without the services of Mark Brincat, who collected his fourth yellow card in the last match against Vittoriosa, and is therefore ruled out for tomorrow's clash.
In the first round match, Birkirkara scored twice in the second half, to beat Mosta 3-1.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
