Pole position at stake between Birkirkara and Hibernians

by Ayrton Galea - 22nd September 2013

The BOV Premier League is still in its early stages but title challengers Birkirkara and Hibernians will be seeking an early boost to the campaign. Both sides will be all out to gain sole pole-position of the table this evening in the eagerly awaited match this evening.

Over the last five months, Birkirkara and Hibernians were in a tug-of-war challenge for two of the three honours that the domestic scene offers. A title decider played on the 11 May 2013, saw The Stripes clinching the fourth Premier League title in their history. Three months later, both sides met again in the BOV Super Cup and the Stripes once again had the last laugh as they clinched their sixth Super Cup by beating Hibernians with a 3-2 score.

Today's match is once again expected to be entertaining, yet balanced, as Birkirkara and Hibernians are judged to be two of the main challengers for the league title this season.

The Stripes bounced back from the 1-1 draw against Sliema Wanderers with two consecutive victories as the Champions defeated Balzan Youths with a 2-1 score and last Sunday, they struggled more than expected to beat a determined Mosta side with a 3-1 score. So far, Birkirkara registered three victories and a draw, and they are one of the three sides which are still unbeaten in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Hibernians, who are now under the charge of Head-Coach Branko Nisevic, had a perfect start in their league campaign as they currently enjoying a one-hundred percent winning streak. They registered four victories in as many matches. The Paolites, once again seem to have their forward line as the strongest point, as they have already netted thirteen goals. Last week, Hibernians came from one goal down to beat Rabat Ajax with a 4-1 score.

Hibernians, are currently at the top of the table with 12 points, two points over Birkirkara. A win for the Paolites will make them move four points clear, while a victory for the Champions will mean pole-position on top of the table one point over the same Hibernians, and Valletta.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 19:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 18:00.

Come on the Stripes.
