U16 Girls advance to Knockout's Semi Final
by Ayrton Galea - 5th May 2013In en entertaining quarter final match of the Under 16's Girls Knock Out which produced no less than six goals, Birkirkara showed a great character to come from behind twice to eliminate Tarxien Rainbows with a 4-2 score.
Despite starting the match as hot favourites, the Stripes found an organised team who made their life difficult to penetrate.
After just 4 minutes, Tarxien Rainbows surged ahead as Chloe Ellul managed to beat goalkeeper Janice Xuereb.
This was a cold shower for the Stripes who had conceded an early goal but they didn't took long to settle down and equalised, as on the 10 minutes, Alishia Sultana restored parity in result as she beat goalkeeper Mandy Caruana.
After the result didn't change for the remaining of the first half, in the second half, Tarxien didn't take long to regain the lead as three minutes in the second half, Chantel Spiteri bea Janice Xuereb to regain Rainbows the lead.
The Stripes found themselves once again in the disadvantage, but two goals in space of three minutes turned the match in their favour as they took the lead for the first time in the match.
First, on the 40 minutes, Kelly Groves scored the equalizing goal and just two minutes later, Alishia Sultana scored her second goal in the match to put the Stripes ahead.
Just moments before the final whistle, Raina Giusti sealed the issue with the fourth goal as she beat goalkeeper Caruana on the 50 minutes.
