Birkirkara face off Tarxien in crucial match

by Ayrton Galea - 4th May 2013

All the Maltese football followers will have all their eyes wide open for this weekend's matches which could determine the winning of the Championship starting from this afternoon as joint-leaders Birkirkara will face off Tarxien Rainbows.

If there is any word that could describe the atmosphere in the Birkirkara clan in this tense moment of the league would surely be optimistic. Having gone through their ups and downs throughout the league campaign, the Stripes' character has always distinguished as a solid and a strong one which earned them the place they are presently enjoying.

Following the unexpected goal-less draw against Mosta two matches ago, many begin to doubt if Birkirkara were worthy of the position that they had in the standings but the Stripes bounced back to silence the critics and return to winning ways with a magnificent performance to defeat Valletta and ends the City's title hopes.

However, the Stripes are in what a ‘so near, yet so far situation' as in order to do their job successfully done, they need to beat organised Tarxien Rainbows which definetly will be a hard task to overcome. If the Stripes manage to beat the Rainbows, than they can put all their eyes on the result of the match between Hibernians and Valletta which could mathematically see the Stripes as the new champions of the Maltese football.

On the other hand, having acquired a place in the Championship Pool, Tarxien continued to prove their potential with positive results which earned them the fifth place in the league for this season.

Following beating Mosta with a 4-2 result three matches ago, the Rainbows suffered two consecutive defeats as they lost 3-1 to Valletta and 4-3 to Sliema Wanderers in their last match despite making a fine comeback in the second half.

After missing the last match due to a one-match ban, Zach Muscat is available for selection for today's match.

These two teams already met three times in the Premier League with Birkirkara picking maximum points from the direct encounters.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 17:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 15:00.

We would like to urge all the supporters that for once again they pack up all the stands and to support their beloved players, especially if things are not coming in the team's favour.

Come on the Stripes!
