Under 17s Too Weak For Spartans
by Jonathan Spiteri - 18th April 2013Birkirkara Under 17s suffered a 0-7 defeat at the hands of Hamrun Spartans on Sunday at the Luxol Grounds. Needless to say that this was a sour result for everyone to digest, and should be forgetten sooner rather than later. The Stripes were depleted due to suspensions, injuries, players having to sit for exams and other reasons. This made it impossible to field a team strong enough to compete with a good team like Hamrun.
With regards to the match itself there is not much to report on, as Hamrun dominated from start to finish. The result was never in doubt and the match was over as a contest even before the half time whistle was blown. The second half was more of the same, with Hamrun finding no difficulty in controlling the game and adding a few more goals to end the match winning 7-0.
Coach Mr Marko Glumac felt aggrieved with the result, but felt it was difficult to avoid. “This game does not show our real potential. Our squad was decimated as we had several key players missing. We did not have options on the bench either. Its always sour to be beaten this way, but there was nothing we could do about it unfortunately. We will try to end the season on a high in our last match against Sliema”, a game which will be played on Sunday 28th April and will start at 9am, venue being the Mellieha Grounds.
