Birkirkara drawn against Qormi FC

Birkirkara FC were drawn to play against Qormi in the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy. The draws were held today at the MFA's conference room at the Technical Centre, Ta' Qali.

Mr. Mark Attard, from the MFA, introduced the panel consisting of Mr. Bjorn Vassallo, the CEO of the Malta Football Association, Ms. Iris Mifsud as the Corporate Communications Manger of Maltco Lotteries and Mr. Rodney Pisani.

Mr. Bjorn Vassallo gave a brief summary of what happened in the last weekend in the third round of the U*BET FA Trophy where surprises were not lacking.

He continued to say that it is a satisfaction to see inferior clubs advancing in this competition and this will give an opportunity to these teams to meet bigger and more superior teams. He explained that despite being inferior, surprises and unexpected results happened and this made this competition more beautiful and interesting.

Mr. Vassallo admitted that even he was surprised with some teams that managed to qualify thanks to good football played. This led to their coaches change the mentality to a winning one. Finally, Mr. Vassallo concluded by his thanking Maltco Lotteries for their continuous support.

Ms. Iris Camilleri Mifsud of Maltco Lotteries in her short speech thanked MFA for their invitation and said it is their pleasure to give support to the local football while wishing for more incentives which can help Maltese football.

Before the much awaited draws took place, Mr. Rodney Pisani explained how the fourth round draws will be drawn where in this round there will be no seeding.

The draws resulted as the following:

Match 1: Balzan Youths vs. Gzira United
Match 2: Valletta vs. Nadur Youngsters
Match 3: Sannat Lions vs. Rabat Ajax
Match 4: Marsaskala vs. Zebbug
Match 5: St. Andrews vs. Mqabba
Match 6: Gudja United vs. Hibernians
Match 7: Lija Athletic vs. Floriana
Match 8: Birkirkara vs. Qormi

These matches will be played between Friday 18 January and Wednesday 23 January. More details will be announced later on.

Also, in the same press conference, the draws for the Quarter Final of the U*BET FA Trophy were held and the draws resulted as follow:

Match 1: Balzan Youths / Gzira United vs. Match 8: Birkirkara / Qormi
Match 2: Valletta / Nadur Youngsters vs. Match 3: Sannat Lions / Rabat Ajax
Match 4: Marsaskala / Zebbug vs. Match 6: Gudja United / Hibernians
Match 5: St. Andrws / Mqabba vs. Match 7: Lija Athletic / Floriana.

These matches will be played on the 17 February. Draws for the Semi Final will be drawn after finishing the BoV Premier League 2012-2013.
